PR Week’s Innovation 50: SalientMG’s Max Nelson
Nothing makes me more pleased than to see my team members recognized for their industry contributions. In 2014, Max Nelson, SMG’s Communications Lead, was named to PR Week’s Innovation 50. Each year, PR Week’s editors compile a list to showcase the 50 rising stars of tech PR and digital communications in the agency, in-house, and social media sectors.
I’ve worked with Max now at three companies; first when he led Millennial Media’s (where I was the SVP of Marketing) account at SutherlandGold in San Francisco. He joined my team at Millennial in our Baltimore HQ to lead in-house PR in April 2011 through the company’s IPO in 2012; during which time he was instrumental in growing the company’s media coverage by more than 3000% — and not just quantity of hits, Max increased overall share of voice, positive attention on the mobile advertising industry, and positioned Millennial as a leader within it.
Max became the leader of SalientMG’s communications and social media in the fall of 2013; just 10 months after I started the strategic marketing firm. Since then, he has created impactful media strategies, delivered consistent, positive coverage, and secured numerous awards for our clients. Max takes an integrated marketing view to his PR approach, and he leverages his peer’s expertise on digital, product, creative and partner marketing to develop innovative approaches to media coverage.
