Meet Our Marketing Experts: Q&A with Heather Meeker

How did you hear about SalientMG and why did you decide to join the firm?

I have known Mack for over 10 years. We previously worked together on a startup client, and during that time, I quickly came to respect her ingenuity, creativity and work ethic. When I was planning my next career move, I came across a LinkedIn post from Mack about Salient’s commitment to supporting and raising awareness for underrepresented voices. This is also a passion of mine, and I felt compelled to speak with Mack immediately. After our conversation, I knew that Salient would be an inclusive environment that would enable me to work with high-growth technology companies from startups to global brands and make an impact. 

Describe your role and what you’re most looking forward to/have most enjoyed to date in your position.

I’m the Head of Brand Marketing, which encompasses the top of the marketing funnel and overall awareness for both companies and their executives. My team helps differentiate our clients through competitive intelligence, differentiated messaging and thoughtful, relevant storytelling. I oversee media relations, corporate communications, executive thought leadership/visibility, social media, internal communications, and events. I absolutely love our clients. From startups to pre-IPO global brands, I feel like an extension of their marketing team, and a true partner. 

What is your personal philosophy about the purpose and power of marketing?

I have always said that you cannot buy something from a brand if you don’t know it exists. 

What is the best piece of advice someone gave you and how has it impacted your personal and/or professional direction?

“You always know how to find a solution to every problem.” That’s not the advice, but feedback I received once from a trusted colleague at Oracle and one of the best compliments I have ever received. As to the advice that got me there? “Never come to the table with a problem if you don’t have a solution to offer in return.”

How do you think your own experiences as a founder affect your work with SalientMG clients? 

When I founded my company, MeekerQuinn, we had the same goal as Salient: To be the expert marketing resource for high-growth technology companies, with a focus on go-to-market strategies for startups. MQ was never meant to be the “forever marketing firm” for our clients. Mack’s goals with Salient are similar, which has made working for the firm and helping our clients incredibly familiar and rewarding. 

SalientMG specializes in helping growth-stage technology companies. Real tech talk here–how would you describe your everyday technological prowess?

I’ve worked for startups, global companies, run my own agency, and have been a consultant. I have led marketing, communications, M&A, and have helped to lead an IPO. My experience is vast, but the one thing all of these roles have in common is my passion for being on the forefront of emerging technologies that can make a true difference in people’s lives. 

What is one thing your colleagues don’t know about you (yet)?

I was a professional opera singer!
