Amanda bower
Professor of Business Administration, Washington & Lee University
Amanda teaches courses in marketing management, integrated marketing communications, and creative strategic planning. Her current research interests include the effects of spokespeople in advertising, consumer perceptions of corporate social responsibility initiatives, consumer use of product instructions, and consumer responses to product return policies. Her work has been accepted by Journal of Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Psychology & Marketing, and Journal of Health Communication, among others.
Michelle Kim

Michelle is an entrepreneur, an equitable and inclusive leadership and culture advocate, a speaker, and a writer. Before Awaken, she had a successful consulting career working with C-suite and VP-level executives at high-performing companies around the world, helping them set ambitious business goals and align their teams to achieve them. While working in management consulting and technology startups, she experienced and validated first-hand the urgent need for modern, up-to-date education that empowers leaders to be more empathetic, agile, and culturally aware. Michelle’s expertise in organizational change management, strategic goal setting, and social justice activism set the groundwork for Awaken’s multidisciplinary and action-oriented learning programs.
Naj Austin
Founder & CEO, Somewhere Good
Naj first built the Ethel’s Club, a social and wellness club for people of color, then created their very own parent company, Somewhere Good, a family of brands amplifying creators of color and centering audiences of color. The newest brand in their portfolio, second to Ethel’s Club, is Form No Form, a 24-hour interactive visual channel that allows viewers to watch and purchase the art they consume through the site itself. Somewhere Good aims to create a circular economy of brands that intentionally center both emerging and prominent artists and communities of color, around the world. While many industries still struggle with inclusivity, Somewhere Good speaks to marginalized consumers in settings designed uniquely for them.

Anna is a seasoned omnichannel media veteran with a deep appreciation for the power and potential of OOH. She has experience spearheading the strategic oversight of the digital media and marketing industries’ most vital and fastest growing platforms which include mobile, digital video, audio, measurement, and data.
Alicia Garza
Co-Founder, Black Lives Matter
Alica is an American civil rights activist and writer known for co-founding the international Black Lives Matter movement. She has organized around the issues of health, student services and rights, rights for domestic workers, ending police brutality, anti-racism, and violence against transgender and gender non-conforming people of color. Her editorial writing has been published by The Guardian, The Nation, Rolling Stone, and Truthout. She currently directs Special Projects at the National Domestic Workers Alliance and is the Principal at the Black Futures Lab.
Opal Tometi
Co-Founder, Black Lives Matter
Opal is a Nigerian-American human rights activist, writer, strategist, and community organizer. She is a co-founder of Black Lives Matter. Opal is the former Executive Director of the United States’ first national immigrant rights organization for people of African descent – the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI).
Tometi brought attention to the racial inequities faced by Black people. Before that, Opalwas an active community organizer in her hometown advocating for human rights issues. She has campaigned for advancing human rights, migrant rights, and racial justice worldwide.
Patrisse Cullors
Co-Founder, Black Lives Matter
Patrisse Cullors is an artist, organizer, and freedom fighter from Los Angeles, CA. Cofounder of Black Lives Matter and founder of Dignity and Power Now, she is also a performance artist, popular public speaker, and a New York Times bestselling author. Patrisse has received many awards for activism and movement building, including being named by the Los Angeles Times as a “Civil Rights Leader for the 21st Century” and the Sydney Peace Prize for her work with Black Lives Matter. Patrisse recently completed an international tour for her new book “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir.” This year Patrisse teamed up with digital media company Blackpills to produce RESIST, a docu-series following her Los Angeles grassroots community’s efforts to stop a $3.5 billion jail expansion plan.

Megan Quinn
Chief Operating Officer, Niantic, Inc.
Megan was the product lead for internal map building efforts at Google and was one of the first to join Niantic when it was created as an experimental lab within Google. She went on to lead product at Square before turning to venture capital, first at Kleiner Perkins and then at Spark where she led investments in a series of highly successful and prominent late-stage technology companies, including Niantic. Megan has been a member of the Niantic board since 2017.
